A ProKick Spooktacular Event
October 11, 2020
It's time to dust off your gladrags, make an appointment with the hairdresser and get ready for the scariest show in town...ProKick are ready to kick back against Coronavirus and make this a hair-raising Halloween for fight fans; there'll be plenty of tricks and tons of treats (including a delectable dinner) for all who grab a ticket for the first fang-tastic ProKick event of 2020.
If you remember back to mid-March, there was more than just Coronavirus making the headlines around the ProKick gym. Three of our talented teenagers were hard at work preparing for their second trip of the year to Japan to compete in the K-1 amateur championships. Their relentless determination and dedication in training had prepared the three ProKick Samurais for a week to remember yet with ongoing speculation about whether the trip and event would take place, never once did they take their eyes off the goal. Their training and journey to Japan was generously supported by Belfast tech firm, Datactics, alongside the once in a lifetime opportunity of competing in the championships, Datactics also organised for them to visit the British Embassy in Tokyo and meet with Invest NI representatives in the city. This was certainly an enriching and cultural trip for our three warriors.

On 15th March 2020, they stepped into the ring in Tokyo and well and truly made a name for themselves and the ProKick gym. Grace Goody was crowned K1 amateur kickboxing champion, a first for a female outside of Japan. James Braniff was a close runner up in his final and Jay Snoddon avenged his last Japanese outing with a points win over a tough opponent.
Making their way home from the land of the rising sun, it became clear that they were coming back to a very different Northern Ireland that they had left only a week before. Schools were closing, shops were closing and the gym was also closing. Lockdown had begun. No time to celebrate, no time to share stories, no time to recognise the enormous amount of hard work that Grace, Jay and James had invested in this part of their journey. Until now…
