Two out of three ain’t bad — as the song says! It was a memorable night for the ProKick team in Waterford, with Max “Maximus” Murray and “The Belfast Samurai” Jay Snoddon both recording impressive victories, while James Braniff was on the wrong side of a decision that left many ringsiders questioning the judges’ verdict. But a wise old coach once said "Take it on the Chin and move on"!
Jay “The Belfast Samurai” Snoddon made a massive statement to Irish kickboxing. The bell sounded, Jay immediately closed the distance and unleashed a devastating right hook that dropped Viacheslav Ibarahimovic heavily to the canvas.
It proved to be a successful evening for the ProKick team in Waterford, with Max "Maximus" Murray and "The Belfast Samurai" Jay Snoddon both delivering commanding performances to secure victory. However, the night was not without controversy, as James Braniff found himself on the losing end of a decision that drew considerable doubt from many ringside observers.
16-year-old Max Murray was first up for ProKick and faced a bigger, physically strong opponent over three tough rounds. Max showed just how much he is maturing as a young fighter, staying composed, working hard and producing a very good performance to take a deserved points victory.
Next came James Braniff, who battled through another hard contest but unfortunately lost on the judges’ scorecards. It was a decision that certainly divided opinion, with a number of ringsiders believing James had done enough to have his hand raised.
Then came the main event — and it lasted just FOUR SECONDS!
Jay “The Belfast Samurai” Snoddon made a massive statement to Irish kickboxing.
The bell sounded, Jay immediately closed the distance and unleashed a devastating right hook that dropped Viacheslav Ibarahimovic heavily to the canvas.
There was no count — the referee immediately recognised the contest was over.
KO — 4 seconds of the very first round!
It was an explosive finish from the Belfast fighter and another major step forward in his career. Ringsiders were already talking afterwards about Snoddon as potentially one of the future stars of Irish kickboxing.
And Jay’s message is simple:
He is ready to fight anyone from 64kg to 68kg.
A huge thank you to promoter and fighter Sean Barrett for putting the event together and for the invitation to bring members of the ProKick team to Waterford to compete and help showcase what was a big night for kickboxing in the city.
