Ian Young is gearing up for a memorable father-son moment—right in the boxing ring. 🥊 #FamilyGoals #Kickboxing
Thirteen year-old Jude Young, who trains under Billy Murray at Belfast's ProKick Gym, is following in his father’s footsteps. Ian’s return isn’t just a personal milestone; it’s a powerful message to those in their 40s and 50s that it’s never too late to set a sporting goal and bond with their children through shared passion and perseverance.
At nearly 50 years old, Ian Young views this as a rare and meaningful opportunity to share an unforgettable experience with his son. "I’m approaching 50, and I want to do this with my son before time catches up with me," he said. After a 15-year hiatus from competitive kickboxing, Young has fully dedicated himself to an intensive training regimen. However, a recent injury forced him to delay his return to the ring. “I’ve really missed this adrenaline rush,” he admitted. "But this is a tough sport. During sparring, I took a rib injury that I thought would heal in a week or so. Instead, it sidelined me for three weeks. The pain was unbearable most of the time, and I couldn’t train at all." Despite the setback, Young remains committed to his comeback and the chance to create lasting memories with his son.
The father-son duo will step into the ring at the Stormont Hotel in Belfast on 20th September. The evening promises to be a celebration of inspiration and perseverance, featuring a fight card of 8-10 matches with other high-profile fighters in the search for glory.
The Trilogy: Ian Young (Northern Ireland) vs. Ewe Menzer (Germany)
The highly anticipated third clash between Ian Young and Ewe Menzer promises to settle the score in their storied rivalry. With Ian securing a victory on home turf in Northern Ireland and their previous encounter ending in a draw in Hamburg, this decisive matchup carries immense significance for both veterans.
The rivalry began in 2003 when Menzer believed he had secured victory on points during their first clash in Hamburg, Germany. However, the judges ruled it a draw—a decision Menzer has always insisted was unjust, claiming the fight was his. Five years later, Ian Young returned stronger, reclaiming the European title in 2007 at the Millennium Forum in Derry/Londonderry, defeating the German fighter. Now, Menzer, the determined native of Hamburg, is preparing to step into the ring once more, vowing to make this final chapter of their trilogy anything but an easy fight.
In addition to this headline showdown, there are ongoing developments regarding a potential opponent for Ian’s son, Jude Young, with further details to be announced soon.
The event will also feature other high-profile matchups, each worthy of the spotlight—stay tuned for more updates.
Tickets are priced at £25 and are available now via the ProKick website. Don’t miss this unique and inspiring father-son event, along with an exciting lineup of matches. Secure your seats today to be part of the action!
