Jay Snoddon vs. Yanis Kacem - Northern Ireland vs. France
May 13, 2026
When adversity strikes, true champions reveal themselves. On Saturday 27th June at CFL17 Bash ’n’ Mash in Belfast’s Stormont Hotel, Irish and British Champion Jay “The Belfast Samurai” Snoddon returns to the ring under extraordinary circumstances. Forced to change fighting styles following a serious leg injury and major surgery, Snoddon now faces rising French star Yanis Kacem for the WKN Professional Full-Contact European Championship. This is more than a title fight — it’s the story of resilience, courage, and the fighting spirit of a true warrior.
Due to Jay Snoddon's leg injury and a subsequent rules change, Jay's original opponent Jordan COCU pulled out. Snoddon will now face French fighter Yanis Kacem for the WKN Professional Full-Contact European Championship.
From battling through injury to changing his entire fighting style, this is a story not just about a fighter — but about a warrior.
Jay “The Belfast Samurai” Snoddon has built his reputation the hard way. Irish Champion. British Champion. A relentless pressure fighter known for his explosive K-1 style, sharp combinations, and warrior spirit inside the ring.
But sometimes the greatest battles are fought outside of it.
While many fans were eagerly anticipating the trilogy showdown between Snoddon and French rival Jordan Cocu for the WKN Professional K-1 European Championship this June, fate had other plans. The blockbuster clash has now been postponed — not because of a lack of heart, but because the Belfast Samurai has been fighting a battle far bigger than belts and titles.
Jay Snoddon’s ordeal began back in January 2025 after suffering a serious shin injury. What initially appeared to be a routine setback soon turned into a long and painful journey, with recurring trauma and dangerous blood clots causing ongoing complications.
Then, in March 2026, matters escalated dramatically.
Out of nowhere, Snoddon’s leg swelled severely and he was rushed for medical attention. Doctors diagnosed cellulitis — a serious infection that had attached itself to the old blood clots in his leg. What followed was a physically and mentally draining month of hospital visits, failed antibiotics, uncertainty, and pain.
Eventually, surgery became unavoidable.
Thankfully, the operation proved successful and after a long recovery process, Jay was finally cleared to return to training in April.
But returning was never going to be simple.
The injury has forced the Belfast Samurai to adapt, evolve, and temporarily move away from the explosive K-1 style that made him one of the most exciting fighters in Europe. Instead, Snoddon now sets his sights on the WKN Professional Full-Contact European Kickboxing Championship — a gruelling contest fought over 10 intense 2-minute rounds against the dangerous Yanis Kacem from the famous Team Nasser Kacem in Lyon, France.
Team Nasser Kacem has long been respected throughout the kickboxing world for producing elite-level fighters, with names such as Pinca and Lidon helping build the gym’s feared reputation on the international stage.
At just 19 years old, Yanis Kacem is already making a name for himself. The son of renowned trainer Nasser Kacem, Yanis is no stranger to travelling abroad to compete against top opposition. With an impressive record of 30 fights, 26 wins, and only 4 defeats, the young French star arrives in Belfast carrying both pedigree and experience far beyond his years.
For many fighters, such an ordeal could have ended a career.
For Jay Snoddon, it has only strengthened his warrior mentality.
Changing fighting styles is no easy task at elite level. Different movement. Different rhythm. Different demands physically and mentally. Yet those closest to Snoddon say his determination throughout recovery has been nothing short of inspiring.
Through the darkest moments, Jay credits the unwavering support of his family, coach, teammates, and the wider ProKick community for helping him fight through one of the toughest periods of his life.
Now, the Belfast Samurai returns.
Not just to compete.
Not just to win.
But to prove once again what true warriors are made of.
On fight night, fans won’t simply witness a championship contest.
They’ll witness resilience.
Courage.
Adaptation.
And the fighting spirit of a man who refused to surrender.
Jay Snoddon vs. Yanis Kacem.
Northern Ireland vs. France.
