Germany: The Adventure Begins!

September 20, 2024

Before I dive in, let me just say the entire team made it to Germany safe and sound—thank goodness! After weeks of meticulous planning, when everything was going tickety-boo, 7:45 AM hit and the crew gathered at Glengall Street for the express bus to Dublin Airport. But guess what? There’s always one who's MIA! 20th September 1:30am local time.

The missing Passport - Day one in Germany and what a journey it was—getting here felt like a mini Olympic event!

The bus took off without our very own Grace Goody. While Grace was texting head coach Murray, he sprinted to the front of the bus shouting, “Stop! Grace is here!” Picture this: Grace, our only female fighter, running like she's in a scene from an action movie, trying to catch the bus that was already rolling away.

The bus driver, looking like he was auditioning for "The Reluctant Hero," insisted he’d lose his job if he stopped. Murray, ever the negotiator, offered an alternative—let's just say it involved a very persuasive five-knuckle shuffle. Suddenly, the driver agreed, and Grace hopped on board to a round of applause that could've rivalled a concert.

Once in Dublin, it was time for the classic airport shuffle. Bags were tossed around like they were auditioning for a role in a circus act to make weight for the airline. Let’s hope that’s not a sign of what's in store for our fighter on fight day!

Everyone was boarding the flight to Berlin when Coach Murray turned to his grandson Leo and asked for his passport. Cue the dramatic music—because it was nowhere to be found! The carry-on was emptied like it was a treasure hunt, turned inside out and upside down, but alas, no passport!

After weeks of telling the team to double-check their passports, guess what happened next? Murray called his lovely daughter Brooke, aka “the headless chicken,” and asked her where the passport was. The screams that echoed through Dublin could probably have been heard in another dimension!

Turns out, despite Brooke’s reminders and guidance, the passport was never packed! “Oh, hello, hello!” she exclaimed, realising her oversight after 10 reminders.

Long story short, Johnny and Brooke zoomed to Dublin, delivered the passport, and Billy and Leo got fast-tracked with priority boarding after sipping cocktails in the VIP lounge for two hours.

They caught another flight and arrived at midnight safe and sound. All's well that ends well!
