November 10, 2023
Twist of events, Belfast's own Jay Snoddon finds himself in an unexpected situation. Just 36 hours ago, he was set to defend his WKN Pro-Am World K1 kickboxing title against German fighter Richard Homer, who is now out due to contracting COVID. However, circumstances have swiftly changed, and now Snoddon is preparing to face another formidable opponent from Germany, Abdullah Al-Rajab. The rapid turn of events adds an intriguing element to this already highly-anticipated match.
Soddon, effortlessly hits the precise weight requirement of 60.3kg for this Saturday's defense of his Featherweight WKN Pro-Am World K1 kickboxing crown. He now faces another formidable opponent from Germany, Abdullah Al-Rajab fighting out of Chimosa Gym, Berlin, 25 year old, Abdullah has jumped at the chance of a World Title shot.
The WKO European champion (southpaw) has a fight record of 16 fights, 12 wins and 4 losses. He looked confident at tonight's weigh-in, he came in at 59.6kg - 700 grams inside the required limit - will Abdullah Al-Rajab cause a big upset in his home city on Saturday night.
Billy Murray stated “If there is any upside to this situation, it’s that there still is a fight happening and an opponent has been found. In the fight game, this is an eventuality that can happen. In fact, I remember back in 1989, I was due to defend my ISKA title against a fighter from France at the Ulster Hall, but he injured himself the day before he was to travel to Belfast. I’ll never forget having to stand outside the Ulster Hall and let people know that there was no fight. Thank you to WKN and the promoter for getting a last minute opponent and to Abdullah for taking the fight. To Germany we are here with the belt, and we intend to go home again with it.”
