Battling Braniff Brothers Make History
February 26, 2023
Brilliant Battling Braniff Brothers Make History - The words that all fight fans wanted to hear in Belfast today…”And Still” rang out loud and clear this afternoon as James Braniff successfully defended his WKN K1 Pro Am Light Middleweight title against a tough Spanish opponent Sohaib Bajat.
Across the five rounds, James troubled the Spaniard with front kicks, low kicks and knees along with his tight and technical boxing. A dominant performance from the champion saw his hand raised to cap a unique kickboxing show which featured his three brothers on the undercard.

Starting the show, the eldest Braniff brother, Nathan made his fight debut against Brendan Campbell of TopPro Gym, Carlow. Following in his three younger brothers footsteps, Nathan always had competing in mind when he started in ProKick in August 2022. When his time arrived, he threw everything he had at it and came out victorious in a tough contest. Both fighters gave it every ounce of energy that they had and held nothing back creating a spine tingling atmosphere for the first fight of the day.
Next up, was the youngest of the brothers, Adam, who faced Aaron Wyse from Phoenix Mind and Body Performance, Waterford. It was a tight contest across the first two rounds and then Adam
began to find success with knees to the body in the third. It all came down to a nail biting decision and the judges decided it was another win for a Braniff brother, Adam.
Time for brother number three, Dan to step into the ring against Martynas Jagutis from Carlow. This fight was scheduled to take place on the Champions Fight League 3 in January only Dan suffered a tooth abscess the day before and had to medically withdraw. Both fighters had the bit between their teeth having waited six weeks for this match and it was non-stop action right from the first bell. Dan was having success with his right hand in the first round causing the Carlow fighter to rethink his approach. In the second round, Jagutis landed with a right hook that resulted in a knockdown and count for Dan. This left it all to play for in the last round and both fighters came out and gave it their all. The result this time didn’t go in favour of the Braniff brothers and it was a win for TopPro Carlow’s Martynas Jagutis.
A unique and historic event again for the ProKick gym with the successful defence of James’ European title and a fight card compiling of four brothers meant it was a scintillating Sunday for all in attendance.
