On the afternoon of Sunday, April 12th, ProKick Gym on Laburnum Street in east Belfast was a mixture of excitement and nerves as our adults took centre stage for a special belt grading. Students from beginner to senior level Blue belt demonstrated their kicks and punches, hoping to advance to the next stage of ProKick's ladder of excellence and earn a promotion through the gym's multi-level system.

The atmosphere was tense yet focused as each student took their turn under the watchful eyes of coaches and classmates. Once the new belts were handed out, celebrations erupted. Most students immediately tied the belts around their waists, proudly showing off the spoils of their hard-earned victory. By the end of the day, almost every participant had walked away with a new or higher belt, many leaving with a great sense of achievement and pride.

ProKick offers a safe and exciting environment where members can build strength, flexibility, and self-defense skills through engaging, non-contact activities. The program uses a structured belt system to foster discipline, coordination, and confidence. Research confirms that martial arts can enhance fitness, social skills, and self-esteem. By focusing on encouragement and steady progression, ProKick helps even its most reserved members become more confident and focused, developing valuable life skills that extend far beyond the gym.

A huge thank you to our four ProKick Black Belts — Jay Snoddon, Ruth Anderson, Rowen Bolt, and Mark Cairnduff — who gave up their Sunday afternoon to assist senior coach Billy Murray with the grading. They expertly guided the students through their paces, helping to maintain the high standards we pride ourselves on at ProKick.
