ProKick at Cookstown kickboxing event

October 21, 2023

Last night, three fighters from our esteemed Gym 'ProKick' showcased their skills at Joe Hagan's 21st-year gym anniversary event in Cookstown. The highlight of the evening was undoubtedly 21-year-old Grace Goody's triumphant return. After a two-year hiatus that followed a heartbreaking loss in the Knockdown Lockdown European title challenge, coupled with long-COVID and other health issues, Grace Goody proved that she is far from finished. Her performance spoke volumes.

Back to winning ways - Grace Goody faced Cara McLaughlin from Cookstown Mugendo, possibly one of the best fights of the night

Grace Goody faced Cara McLaughlin from Cookstown Mugendo, possibly one of the most experienced current Full-Contact kickboxers in Ireland, Grace showed no signs of trouble throughout the fight. In fact, she outboxed her opponent in certain moments and exhibited superior fitness in the final stages of the match. The judges rendered a split decision in favour of Grace Goody, a well-deserved victory for both fighters.

Congratulations to Grace and her opponent for an impressive display of skill and sportsmanship.

Jay Snoddon had a perfect warm-up bout for his 1st defence of his WKN Pro-Am world title in Berlin, Germany, in just three weeks. Although his match with Evan McNulty of Sligo Mugendo was considered to be an exhibition match, with no official decision, it seemed that the judges and referee were unaware of this distinction. What was supposed to be a spirited sparring session quickly turned into a real fight when Evan McNulty unleashed his aggression in from the second round.

Undeterred, Snoddon, the skilled ProKick fighter, displayed his expertise in all aspects of the match, showcasing his kicking, knee strikes, boxing technique, and superior ring-craft. Surprisingly, the judges unanimously declared Snoddon the winner, despite the match supposedly not having a decision. It was a peculiar situation, but a victory nonetheless.

Big thanks and recognition go to Evan McNulty and his team from Sligo Mugendo. They have revealed themselves as a young talent to keep an eye on in the future.

Earlier the evening, debutant Robbie McQuide faced off against Mijo Markievicz, another fighter from Sligo Mugendo. Unfortunately, Robbie didn't come out on top this time, losing a split decision in his first kickboxing match under the ProKick banner. However, he is determined to bounce back and is already preparing for his next fight, scheduled for December 10th at a Rookies event in the ProKick Gym located in Belfast.

I would like to express my gratitude to Sensie Joe Hagan from Cookstown Mugendo for organising and the invite to his event. Billy Murray, ProKick.

Videos of the matches will be shared on our exclusive private FB members page.
