El Matador Snoddon is a Big Hit in Spain

While Storm Dudley, Eunice and Franklin have caused havoc at home in recent days, ProKick’s WKN International and European amateur K1 champion Jay Snoddon created his own storm in Madrid this weekend against an experienced Spanaird, Daniel Briega. Snoddon’s kickboxing fight was the only one of its kind on a WKN MMA card promoted by Chinto Mordillo. Jay’s original opponent Ali Laamri, had to pull out due to Covid, but all the ProKicker’s precise preparation wasn’t to be lost as Briega, a former ICO cadet world title challenger stepped in to take on Dundonald’s top talent.
Jay Snoddon's debut in Spain may have got off with a rocky start but the eighteen year old from Dundonald finished in KO fashion. Stopping late substitute, Daniel Briega from Cordoda with a first round TKO in Madrid on Sunday night.

In slightly unfamiliar territory, fighting in an octagon rather than a ring, Snoddon wasn’t to be deterred. He began quickly and worked sharply behind his jab, moving in and out of Briega’s range and countering a number of times with a left hook leaving his opponent stumbling. The referee stepped in and gave Briega a standing count. Snoddon gave him no time to compose himself and met him with a flying knee before settling down again to his jab. It was with a cracking left jab Snoddon sealed the deal sitting Briega down with a perfectly timed shot. This time the referee decided he’d seen enough and El Matador Snoddon was declared the winner by RSF in the first round. His Spanish debut a success, Snoddon now looks forward to topping the bill at his home show in Belfast with ProKick’s event ProspeX on 23rd April in the Stormont Hotel. There’s only one thing on young Snoddon’s mind though, and with his win confirmed in Madrid he announced to his fans watching back at home, “I will be World Champion.” You won’t find too many people who question this statement from the confident 18 year old.
Credit must go to Jay’s opponent Daniel Briega, who shared after the fight that his grandmother had passed away the day before. He travelled 250 miles that day to take the fight in Madrid. A true warrior and someone that deserves a lot of respect.
