Belfast's Billy Murray has won the backing of none other than the Mayor of Odesa, Mr. Gennadiy Trukhanov and our own Belfast City Council, Lord Mayor, Mr Ryan Murphy. The mayor of Odesa Mr. Gennadiy Trukhanov is a former Muay-Thai exponent himself and like Murray understands the power that sport and martial arts in particular has to unite people. Mr. Trukhanov and his Ukrainian team are eager to build connections with the people of Belfast and are throwing their full support behind the event to make this exciting opportunity a reality.

The Mayor of Odesa, Mr. Gennadiy Trukhanov, said: “Despite the challenges posed by martial law in Ukraine, we are determined to forge ahead with new projects and sustain existing ones. In particular, the realm of sports has taken on even greater significance in our nation, transcending times of peace. That being said, I am thrilled to share some exciting news: thanks to the support of the Odesa City Council, we are organising a thrilling fighting competition in Belfast, bringing together talented athletes from both Odesa and Belfast. Get ready for an epic showdown!”

He added, “Get ready for an exciting collaboration! Representatives from Odesa's sports field will team up with none other than Billy Murray, an outstanding kickboxing world champion, and his group, ProKick! Sport, a universal language, lets us discover ourselves through the struggle. With this initiative, we'll deepen our understanding, foster community development, and enhance relations between us. Let's join forces in sports, culture, education, and tourism. Cooperation awaits!”

Billy Murray: I would like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to Grand Master Sken Kaewpadung, the Ukrainian Muay Thai Federation, and everyone for their invaluable support in making this event possible, work is still in progress. I would also like to express my sincere appreciation to the Odesa city council solicitors and my own Belfast city council, as well as to all those who have offered guidance and assistance along the way. Special thanks go to Mr. Cabrera from WKN. Lastly, I am immensely grateful to the Odesa city council for their kind invitation and unwavering friendship during these challenging times in their country. As I embark on my journey to Ukraine this weekend, their gesture means the world to me.

Together with Billy Murray, we founded 'The Peace Fighter' initiative back in 2006 at UNICEF HQ Geneva. Our program has successfully facilitated international trips for hundreds of children, all with the aim of promoting our sport worldwide. It gives me great pleasure to announce the association of The Peace Fighters initiative with this event."
