An adrenaline-fueled Rookie Show in Belfast's ProKick Gym

The relentless Rookie show, held at the ProKick gym, was an adrenaline-fueled spectacle that lasted for three and a half hours. With 36 competitors hailing from various parts of Ireland and one from Holland, this event marked a thrilling end to 2023. The crowd was treated to non-stop action as each participant stepped into the ring, showcasing their skills and leaving a lasting impact on the audience.

For many this was their first venture into the ring and after weeks of hard training, it was time to put it all into practice. Topping the bill was a much anticipated WKN K1 Welterweight Irish Title fight between ProKick’s Dan Braniff and Top Pro Carlow’s Martynas Jagutis which was certainly worth waiting for. Four rounds of excellent kickboxing action left nobody in any doubt that these are the top two Welterweights in Ireland right now. It went to the judges’ decision and ProKick’s Dan Braniff was crowned the new WKN K1 Irish champion!
Just before the title fight, there was an international affair between ProKick’s Grace Goody and Team Elite ’ Kim De Man. The pair had just fought in Vollendam, Holland three weeks prior to today’s showdown. De Man came out on top in November and Goody was chasing revenge. After three fantastic rounds of K1 action, Grace had her hand raised in victory. It’s now one a piece for each fighter. Will there be a trilogy? Perhaps for a WKN European title in 2024?
A big thank you to all coaches and fighters who took part in today’s show. What we witnessed today is that kickboxing is alive and well on the island of Ireland. It was a brilliant to see everyone working together to give our kids and fighters opportunities in sport.
