The decision was announced: Jay Snoddon was crowned the 18th world champion produced by Billy Murray at ProKick. Snoddon, the new WKN K1 Pro/Am Featherweight World Champion.

The atmosphere was electric as the sold out crowd were on the edge of their seats in anticipation of the main event. Both contenders, Richard Homer from Germany and Jay Snoddon from Belfast gave fight fans plenty to cheer about with five rounds of non-stop action.

A tight first two rounds between the two young fighters and there was little to separate them. But Snoddon put his foot on the gas in round three and picked up the pace, pushing Homer backwards and hurting him with clinical knees to the body.

The same onslaught from Snoddon came in round four, with his boxing and low kick keeping Homer on the back foot and against the ropes in the penultimate round. The German was lucky to hear the bell ring to signal the end of the fourth round and he stumbled back to his corner. When the bell rang for round five, the crowd erupted and Jay put on another master class, landing continuous leg kicks on Homer in the corner. When the final bell rang, Snoddon lifted his arms in triumph while Homer dropped to his knees with exhaustion.

The decision was in the hands of the judges but there was palpable excitement within the arena that ProKick were about to see their 18th world champion crowned. And that’s exactly what happened when the decision was announced: the new WKN K1 Pro/Am Featherweight World Champion, ProKick’s Jay Snoddon. His hand was raised, a crown placed upon his head, the illustrious belt fastened around his waist and a gold medal hung around his neck and the young man’s dream was now a reality.

How did he get here? His coach, Billy Murray summed up the new World Champion with these words; hard work, dedication and a dream. This is only the beginning for Snoddon and Murray. The dream only continues, but for now the celebrations will go on as Northern Ireland has a new world champion and ProKick has its 18th.

The undercard displayed lots of other young, up and coming talent from the ProKick gym. The future is certainly bright for kickboxing in NI.
