My Team were to Compete Tonight

June 06, 2020

TODAY Saturday 6th June, Johnny 'Swift' Smith and the ProKick team were to go through the ropes at the Stormont Hotel. It was a chance for Smith to fulfil his ambition of becoming a Professional World WKN Kickboxing champion which only a few have accomplished. Smith was to face Japanese KO champion, Yohe Fujioka. Unfortunately, Covid-19 KO’d not just Johnny’s quest but the entire show along with every other sporting fixture across the UK & Europe.

From the experienced ‘Swift’ Smith topping the bill, right to the other end of the event, with a young first-timer showing that the hard work and dedication to prepare can be the same. It was for Gary Lynch - a young 14 year-old teenager preparing for his first Full-Contact match under the ProKick banner.

Gary asked me about fighting over 6 months ago. I explained how tough it would be and give him an ultimatum, here’s your weight target so lose the weight and you’re on the card. He was to fight another 14 year-old from England with the match was made at 71kg. When I first weigh’d Gary he was 82kg 6 months ago, 3 months later he was 78kg. I explained, he needed to change a few things and work harder. Even-though our gym has been closed for over 10 weeks this amazing young man with the help of his Dad weigh’d-in today at 69.9kg. Showing that #HardWorkPaysOff regardless of your level or experience.

The entire show was postponed until September 12th. However, we don’t think that the country will be back to normal, therefore, we are now looking for a December date for the event.

We will have some outdoor classes this weekthat’s when we'll reignite our sleeping Dragon!
