Gary Hamilton, a former WKN Featherweight World Champion first started to compete when he was just 15 years old. Over the course of 18 years active in the sport, the South Belfast native has won every major title in both the amateur and professional kickboxing ladder. At amateur level he attained Ulster, Irish, British, European and World titles. Having then turned professional in 2000, Gary has accomplished Irish, British, European and Intercontinental Championships. Upon winning these, he then made his way to France to successfully take the World Featherweight Title. Not only defeating the current title holder, but also massing 3 defences of his new Featherweight crown. The fourth defence on May 2nd 2009 was in Geneva, Switzerland. It was then that saw the end of Gary's reign. After the shock defeat, Gary quickly returned to training and soon after took on extremely tough French fighter Bruce Codron for the WKN World Welterweight Full Contact Title in Mazan, France. Gary battled through the entire 12 blisteringly hard rounds of the fight only to lose on points in a weight division he was not yet accustomed to. This has not put him off seeking to regain his place back at the very top of the kickboxing ladder where he belongs.
Gary has not been as active as he would have wished, taking a break from his competitive career due to other work and family commitments. Now that he has made a slow return to the ring with just 6 fights since November 2011. Gary Hamilton has landed himself another crack at reigning as a world kickboxing champion as his career enters a last-chance saloon. The 33-year-old, who held the WKN’s featherweight title for several years, and challenged the great Mohammad Samir in an epic encounter at the Ulster Hall in 2005, will return to the city’s historic fight venue in December.
